LOCAL NEWSJERSEY BOYS STAR MICHAEL INGERSOLL IN A FIRST FOR THE ACORN THEATER: STEPPIN' OUT Cabaret“He's an amazing actor, singer and artist. He put together this killer cabaret show for us that's played every time to sold out houses. He got rave reviews from the Daily Herald. Audience members actually thank me for bringing this show to Metropolis. It's a cool combination of wonderful music and behind-the-scenes stories.”-Jim Jarvis, Executive Director, Metropolis Performing Arts Centre “...I forgot about the world outside as I reveled in Michael Ingersoll's story set to song. His brilliant singing accompanied by a fierce sense of humor evoked emotions across the board; I mostly smiled, but also wept and laughed, and even laughed until I wept! In these days when money is so tight, I am happy to forego having other things so that I can soak up the arts...” - Krista Stuber, Arlington Heights “His honest and genuine rapport with the audience was what made the show so wonderful. The audience was on its feet the second the show was over and it was amazing to see someone so young command the stage by himself so effortlessly. I would recommend this show to anyone." -Evan Linder, Producing Director, The New Colony “I expected a good show but nothing as great as this? I am now telling all my friends to get tickets for you next show before it sells out.” -Rick Kautz, Chicago “It was refreshing to hear of someone who followed their heart and was rewarded in doing so. I think your story has a very positive message, and I hope you continue to share it with others. Thanks again for a wonderful show! I really enjoyed myself.” -Katherine Shields, Purdue University On a Monday night, December 15, when theaters "go dark," The Acorn Theater was able to book Jersey Boys' Michael Ingersoll in Steppin' Out: a cabaret of music, stories, and a meet and greet with a star (Nick Massi of the Four Seasons) of Jersey Boys in Chicago and a five-piece band of musicians from the show. Appearing for the last two years in the Chicago production of Jersey Boys (800 performances) Ingersoll knows that audiences love to hear the music of their youth and they appreciate a success story that is based on hard work, vision, risk taking, and gratitude. He will sing a very eclectic mix of songs, most of which were penned before he was born, with the bulk of the show comprised with Rat Pack era standards such as Taking a Chance on Love, Ain't that a Kick in the Head, Strangers in the Night, and They All Laughed; a few pop songs from Billy Joel and Elton John, and counttry tunes from Country's greats, a doo-wop medly, and a few musical theater pieces. Add to that a lot of show-biz gossip including his experiences meeting celebrities while on tour with Jersey Boys: Kevin Bacon, Steven Colbert, James Gandolfini, and William Shatner to name a few, and you have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And expect a few undisclosed surprises. Ingersoll's amazing five-piece band include piano, drums, bass, sax, and guitar, musicians come from the pit of Jersey Boys and have fantastic accomplishments of their own. The drummer for instance, is also Dennis DeYoung's (lead singer of Styx) drummer; the sax player heads his own big band; the bassist is a respected professor at the University of Chicago; the guitarist has been a solo artist for over 20 years in Chicago; the pianist and conductor is also the conductor of Jersey Boys. Hunting AlertMichigans's fields and forest will soon be alive with blaze orange hunting gear. Sheriff L.Paul Bailey wants both visitors and residents of Berrien County to know some important safety rules before setting out to deer camp.* Your hunting license and the identification used to purchase it(Michigan driver's license, identification card, or DNR sport card) must be carried with you at al times while hunting. * All hunters must wear an item of clothing(hat, cap, vest, jacket, or rain gear) in "hunter's orange"; it must be the outermost garment; and it must be visible from all sides. If it is camouflage, at least 50% of the garment must be orange. * Hunting hours begin approximately one-half hour before sunrise and last until approximately one-half hour after sunset. * Safety zones include all areas within 150 yards(450 feet) of an occupied building, ouse, cabin, barn or other farm building. You may not hunt in this area or shoot at any animal in this area, unless you have the written permission of the property owner. * It is illegal to drink alcohol or use intoxicating drugs before hunting. Sheriff Bailey also wants hunters to take the following precautions to prevent injury or death while hunting this season: * Familiarize yorself with the area where you will be hunting * Never assume you are alone in the woods * Never assume other hunters will be acting responsibly * If sitting against a rock or tree, make sure it is wider than your shoulders so you are not mistaken for a target. * BE 100% SURE OF YOUR TARGET BEFORE SHOOTING! Sheriff Bailey urges all hunters to act responsibly this season. "Reacquaint yourself with Michigan's hunting laws and follow these safety tips to prevent a tragedy from happening this year. Deer AlertThe Berrien County Sheriff's department reminds motorist that with fall and the hunting season in full swing, deer populations will be on the move. This activity heightens the chance of a car/deer crash occurring.Last year more than 60,000 accidents in Michigan involved a deer. "Most often, you'll see a deer near dawn or dusk," states Sheriff L. Paul Bailey. Motorist are encouraged to look beyond the beam of their headlights for eyes of deer that could be in the path of your vehicle. Trying to dodge a deer is not a good idea according to Sheriff Bailey. Deer often move erratically and swerving may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. The best way to avoid a deer/car collision is to slow your car down, flash your headlights and/or blow your horn to try and scare the animal. Deer travel together, if you see one chances are others are coming so please proceed with caution. Remember to heed deer crossing signs. If you do hit a deer make sure you report it to your local police or sheriff's office.

Bus SafetySheriff L. Paul Bailey reminds everyone to remember school bus safety rules as kids in Berrien County return to school. The first day of school has come and gone and it marks a significant milestone in the life of a child. It's an exciting time for making new friends, learning new things, and for some, riding the school bus. Every day more than 20 million students use school buses as transportation to and from school. Although school buses represent the safest form of highway transportation, there are a number of safety factors both students and drivers should be aware of. Hopeing to ensure that the school year is a safe and happy for the students, the Berrien County Sheriff's Office encourages caution whenever school buses are present."Children are often eager to get off the school bus because they are excited to tell their parents about all of the fun they had at school that day," said Sheriff Bailey. "It is crucial that parents re-enforce the school bus safety rules children learn at school. Sheriff Bailey also suggest that parents drive their children's bus route with them to practice safety precautions. Throughout a child's life, there are a number of situations where parents will be unable to exercise control. However, there are numerous precations they can take to help ensure their child enjoys a safe ride to and from school. The Berrien County Sheriff's Office has some safety measures they encourage all parents to discuss with their children.
Students- Always get to the bus stop early.-Prior to boarding, wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the door opens, and the bus driver says that it's o.k. to board. -Always walk on the sidewalk when preparing to cross the street near a bus. Make eye contact with the driver so that you are sure he/she sees you. -Never walk behind a bus. -If you are walking beside a bus, walk at least three giant steps away. -Take extra precautions to make sure that clothing with drawstrings and book bags do not get caught in the hand rail or door. -Never stop to pick something up that you have dropped when a bus is stopped. Wait until the bus has driven off to avoid not being seen by the driver.
Motorist-Remember that children are unpredictable in their actions. Take extreme caution when traveling in a school zone.-If there are no sidewalks, drive cautiously. Be more alert to the possibilty of children walking in the road. -Slow down and prepare to stop whenever you see yellow school bus lights flashing. -Never pass a school bus when there are flashing red lights. This is a sign that children are getting on or off of the bus. -Remember if in doubt, stop - slow down - use extreme caution.
